How do personal records work in Coachably?

TL;DR: Coachably tracks each client’s personal records two ways — automatically after a completed training (marked Estimated) and manually by you (marked Tested). You’ll find them all in the client’s Personal Records tab.

How do personal records work in Coachably?

A personal record (PR) is the best result a client has hit for a given exercise. Coachably tracks these for you so you don’t have to keep your own log.

Records come from two sources. The first is automatic: after a completed training, Coachably reads the results, calculates an estimated 1 rep max with the Epley formula, and saves it. These records carry the Estimated badge.

The second source is you. When you tap Add Record and enter a result yourself, Coachably saves it with the Tested badge.

All records sit in the client’s Personal Records tab, grouped by exercise. When a client beats a previous best during a session, the New Personal Record! notification fires right away.

What’s the difference between an Estimated and a Tested record?

An Estimated record is calculated, not measured. Coachably runs the Epley formula on a workout result — for example, 3 reps at 90 kg gives an estimated 1RM of about 97 kg. Its source shows as Workout.

A Tested record is measured directly, such as an actual max lift. You add it by hand, so its source shows as Manual.

Use both together: let Coachably track progress automatically, then log a Tested record on the days you test a true max.

How do you add a personal record manually?

  1. Open the client profile and go to the Personal Records tab.
  2. Tap Add Record to open the Add Personal Record screen.
  3. In the Exercise field, tap Select exercise and pick one from the list.
  4. Choose a Record Type: 1 Rep Max, 3 Rep Max, 5 Rep Max, or Best Time.
  5. Enter the result — Weight (kg) for strength, or a duration in mm:ss for time.
  6. Set the Date and add optional Notes.
  7. Tap Save.

FAQ

How does Coachably calculate the estimated 1RM? It uses the Epley formula: 1RM ≈ weight × (1 + reps / 30). The result appears as a preview when you enter a 3 Rep Max or 5 Rep Max value and is tagged Estimated.

Can a coach edit or delete a record? Yes. In the Personal Records tab, open a record — you’ll see options to edit or delete it. Deletion is permanent and removes the full record history.

Where can I see the record history for an exercise? In the Personal Records tab, tap an exercise — the History section opens with a list of all previous records for that exercise.

When does the “New Personal Record!” notification appear? It fires automatically after a training session ends, when the results beat the client’s previous best for an exercise.
